Château Bacalan is famous as a former residence of the famous philosopher Baron de Montesquieu who lived there in the eighteenth century and planted vines there in 1876. The estate was ignored for about 70 years before the Gonet family came along and comletely refurbished the chateau and the wine producing infrastructure.
The mayor of Pessac owning 2 hectares of vines on the property, Château Haut Bacalan thereby becomes the official wine!
Completely refurbished after lying for 70 years without production, it covers an area of 6 hectares, two belonging to the municipality allowing the establishment of a partnership agreement with the City of Pessac it will be the producer of Official wine.
